Women’s Basketball Advances to Tournament Championship with 32-Point Victory

The Women’s Basketball team defeated Texas-Arlington by a score of 79-47 on Day 1 of the STJ-Chartwells Holiday Classic. The Red Storm will take on Virginia Tech on Sunday at 2pm as they look to take the four team, 2-day tournament held at Carnesecca Arena. (more…)

Women’s Basketball’s upset bid falls short at North Carolina

One day after the men dropped their first game of the season in Durham, the St. John’s women’s basketball team met a similar result eight miles away in Chapel Hill, N.C. They hung with the #4 North Carolina Tar Heels, but ultimately fell short, 83-73. (more…)

Women’s Basketball moves to 7-0 with win at Columbia

With a showdown at No. 4 North Carolina on Sunday looming, Friday’s tilt against Columbia had all the makings of a trap game.

Lindsay’s last second shot sends Storm into the second round

The Red Storm will live to see another day.

With 1.1 seconds left on the game clock and a tied score with state rival Syracuse, the St. John’s women’s basketball team put the ball in the hands of their point guard, Sky Lindsay. Lindsay hit the jumper from just within the free throw line and the Johnnies now find themselves in the second round of the Big East tournament after defeating Syracuse 63-61. (more…)

Women get first win sans McLean

The St. John’s women’s basketball team notched their first win without their leading scorer Monique McLean last night at Carnesecca Arena, a 78-57 triumph over local rival Seton Hall.

“This is a great win for us. I think our confidence has been down for us,” head coach Kim Barnes-Arico said “You lose a player of Monique’s [McLean] caliber and for the kids to come out and play the way they did and get a win without her I think says a lot about them.” (more…)

State rival Syracuse ruins Valentines Day for Storm

Perhaps it was the absence of the Storm’s leading scorer Monique McLean, who was suspended by head coach Kim Barnes Arico indefinitely for violating the St. John’s student athlete code of conduct. Or maybe it was the added pressure on the shoulders of freshman Da’Shena Stevens who came off of a career night against the Connecticut Huskies. (more…)
